Accident Solicitors No Win No Fee Blackpool

Blackpool is a seaside town in Lancashire famous for fresh air and fun. The town is on the Irish sea and has a population of around 150,000. Throughout the middle ages Blackpool was a coastal hamlet possible named after an historic drainage channel (possibly Spen Dyke) that ran over a peat bog, discharging discoloured water into the Irish Sea, which then formed a black pool. On the other side of the Irish Sea Dublin’s name is derived from the Irish for black pool.

Blackpool’s fortunes as a seaside resort started to take off when Thomas Clifton financed a new turnpike for stage coaches which began a service from Manchester to Blackpool in 1781. By 1951 the population had risen from 500 to 2,500. However, it was the towns connection to the rail network which really made things take off and at the same time the mill workers were looking for somewhere to go during their ‘wakes week’ holiday. Blackpool with its 7 mile long beach, fitted the bill and by 1881 it was a booming resort with a population of 14,000 which rose to 47,00 by 1901.

By this stage Blackpool had fairgrounds, donkeys, lights and in 1894 its famous tower and had cemented its positions as Britain’s foremost holiday resort.  However, all good things come to an end and since the rise of package holidays in the seventies, its popularity has been on the wain. However, with its many attractions Blackpool still attracts millions of visitors every year.
