Accident Solicitors Portsmouth No Win No Fee

Portsmouth is a large City Port off the south coast of England in the County of Hampshire.  It is ‘off’ the South Coast of England rather than ‘on’ it, as it lies mainly only the island of Portsea which is the third biggest island of the UK by population and is connected to the mainland by a variety of road, rail and footbridges. With a population of just over 200,000 it is the city in the UK with the highest population density, even before London.

The history of the city can be traced back to roman times for which reason it is nicknamed ‘Pompey’. After the romans packed up it grew into an increasingly important Naval base and today is home to most of the Royal Navy’s surface fleet. During the industrial revolution it grew as a commercial port and centre for trade. The strategic importance of Portsmouth led to is being bombed during the second wold war in what became known as the ‘Portsmouth Blitz’.  Its naval and military role led to be the embarkation point for troops on D day and the during the Falklands war.

Famous ‘Pompeyians’ include, for some reason, many authors from Charles Dickens to Conan Doyle and Kipling. Roger Black and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are recent sporting heroes from the City.
