Accident Solicitors Southampton No Win No Fee

Southampton is a city in Hampshire on the south coast at the confluence of the Rivers Test and Itchen. The county was famous for crystal clear chalk streams, attracting fly fisherman from all over the world but climate change has inevitably hit the ecology of the area. The City has an estimated population of 253,000.  A resident of Southampton is called a Sotonian and best not to abbreviate it really.

Southampton is noted for its association with engineering triumph and disaster in the forms of the Titanic and  Spitfire and all military movements of the history of the Islands has come through the waters of the Solent at some point, settling the Romans at Clausentum, the Anglo Saxons evidenced by the beginnings ( or in fact endings) of her name as Hamwic and in the architecture of St Marys Church ( not the nearby home of Southampton FC) to the 12th Century Norman Castle. Today the Port is a major commercial and travel hub for the UK trading with Europe and for Worldwide Cruises. Perhaps the success of the latter industry signposts the future of the trade of the port industry post Brexit. Go West has been a theme of the Port since the Mayflower set sale.

Skulduggery has played its part locally, with French invasion as recently as 1338 and readers of the Bard will be familiar with the name Baron Scrope of Masham from Henry V, who sought to betray the King. The City repelled Parliamentary forces in the Civil War and was central to the D Day invasion or liberation of Normandy in 1944.

Southampton has been home of major singing stars such as Craig David, Benny Hill and Aqualung but is perhaps better known for Sport. Aside from angling, it is the Football club that has been a source of local pride and home to the likes of Kevin Keegan, Alan Shearer, Mat Le Tissier and Alan Ball. The City is also home to Hampshire County Cricket Club were Shane Warne spun and is captained by Jimmy Adams today; past greats include C.B Fry and the county can boast to be the origin of the sport at Hambledon. The Rose Bowl continues to be a Test match venue.
